Match Review: Bournemouth vs Crystal Palace – Premier League Draw
Crystal Palace frustrated Bournemouth in a tightly contested Premier League affair with a goalless draw at Vitality Stadium. Still unbeaten in six, the Cherries were unable to find a way past a Palace side still reeling from a 5-1 mauling at the hands of Arsenal earlier in the week.
Bournemouth's Strong Form Hits a Roadblock
Bournemouth, who had notched 13 points from the last 15 available, were looking to continue their excellent streak after a dominant 3-0 win over Manchester United. Despite dominating possession, they failed to score for the first time in 11 matches. This result drops them to sixth place in the Premier League table, level on points with Newcastle but behind on goal difference.
Crystal Palace's Tactical Approach Pays Off
Crystal Palace, under the management of Oliver Glasner, did make some tactical changes from their heavy defeat to Arsenal. The Eagles earned a valuable point as they managed to keep Bournemouth at bay throughout the match. Eberechi Eze returned to the starting lineup, and the side looked more organized, especially in defense.
First Half – Few Chances for Both Teams
The first half was a quiet affair, with few clear chances for either team. Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta missed an early chance, dragging a shot wide, while teammates Ismaila Sarr and Daniel Munoz had efforts blocked or saved by Bournemouth's goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
At the other end, Bournemouth had a couple of half chances. Dango Ouattara flashed a shot across goal, while Antoine Semenyo's effort was blocked by Sarr on the goal line following a corner from Lewis Cook.
Controversy Over Offside Goal in Second Half Chances
In the 27, Palace thought they had taken the lead when Sarr coolly slotted past Kepa, only for the goal to be chalked off for offside following a pass from former Bournemouth midfielder Jefferson Lerma.
Bournemouth had the best chance of the second half when Kepa pushed a powerful effort from Eze, but Palace remained the better side on the counterattack. Andoni Iraola's side made a change as club-record signing Evanilson replaced Enes Unal, but the Cherries couldn't find a way through.
Final Minutes: Bournemouth's Pressure Comes to Nothing
However, even with the majority of possession in the second half, the efforts from Bournemouth lacked the sharpness needed to break down Crystal Palace. Substitute Philip Billing provided a spark, but his colleagues failed to test Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson. Evanilson had an opportunity following a defensive error by Palace's Maxence Lacroix, but his shot went wide.
Looking Ahead:
That makes Bournemouth looking to return to winning ways against Fulham this Sunday, while Crystal Palace welcome bottom-of-the-table Southampton into an opportunity to push themselves well off of that zone.
